A cookie banner that follows the rules

Cookie Consent

Cookie Consent shows a cookie banner that follows the GDPR and ePrivacy rules, with Google Consent Mode v2 and the WP Consent API. Pro finds the cookies for you, holds scripts back until the visitor says yes and keeps proof of consent.

  • Free to use
  • Works fully without Pro

In WordPress the plugin is called Datoden Cookie Consent – in the DT-addons menu it is listed as DT-cookie.

How Cookie Consent works

DT-cookie shows a cookie banner where Accept all and Reject all are the same size, nothing is pre-ticked, and Settings lets visitors choose per category. The choice is stored in the dt_consent cookie, and Google tags and plugins that support the WP Consent API follow it automatically. Everything runs from the plugin – nothing is loaded from other servers.

Cookie banner with categories

The banner has the buttons Accept all, Reject all and Settings. Under Settings visitors choose Statistics and – if you turn it on under Categories and Google – Marketing. Necessary cookies are always on.

Google Consent Mode v2 and WP Consent API

With Google Consent Mode v2 on, Google tags start as denied and then follow the visitor's choice. Plugins that use the WP Consent API, such as Site Kit and WP Statistics, follow the choice automatically.

Look and feel with a live preview

Choose a logo (the website's, your own image for light and dark mode, or none), an accent colour and a position at the bottom left or right. The preview in the sidebar shows the banner in both light and dark mode as you make changes.

Your own texts in many languages

Under Content you change the heading, text, buttons and categories. The banner comes in English, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish, and you can add more languages. Reset text brings back the standard wording.

Change the choice and ask again

Visitors can change their choice with the [datoden_cookie_settings] shortcode or a menu item with the CSS class dt-consent-open. If you start using new cookies, click Ask everyone again now and every visitor is asked on their next visit.

Scan the website Pro

Scan now reads the front page, a few subpages and your active plugins and finds services such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar and YouTube. The plugin then sets itself up: the Marketing category, Google Consent Mode and automatic blocking. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Automatic blocking and a list of services Pro

Known statistics and marketing scripts wait until the visitor has said yes. The [datoden_cookie_list] shortcode shows the services from the latest scan, and Add to the privacy policy puts the list on your privacy page once you click it.

Rules per country and proof of consent Pro

Under Rules for your visitors you choose, for example, Sweden, Other EU/EEA countries, France (6 months), Italy, United States (opt-out) or Worldwide – by the visitor. Proof of consent stores every choice on your own website for 13 months, without the IP address, searchable by consent ID and downloadable as CSV.

What it looks like

Everything without a Pro label works for free. What is marked Pro is included in the Pro version.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the visitor's choice kept?

For 12 months in the dt_consent cookie. With Pro and the rules for France or Italy, it is 6 months.

How do I hold back a script until the visitor says yes?

Mark the script with type="text/plain" and data-dt-consent="statistics" or "marketing", and it only runs after consent. In Pro, automatic blocking handles known scripts for you.

Does the scan send anything to Datoden or anyone else?

No. The website reads its own pages, and nothing is sent anywhere.

I use a cache plugin. Do I need to clear the cache?

No. The cache of common cache plugins is cleared automatically when you save.

Where is the proof of consent stored?

In a separate table in the website's own database. The IP address is not stored, only a short checksum, and records are deleted after 13 months. Nothing is sent to Datoden.

What happens when a licence runs out?

Nothing stops working. A purchase never runs out, and when a subscription ends the plugins keep every function – only the updates from Datoden stop.

What is a major version?

The first number in the version. A purchase includes every update in that major version, for example all 1.x versions. A new major version (2.0) comes about once a year with clearly new features and comes at a discount as an upgrade. A subscription always includes it.

How are websites counted?

Websites connected to your Datoden account with a Pro plugin switched on, in the order they were connected. Disconnect a website in My websites to move the licence to another.

Do I need a licence key?

No. The website is connected to your Datoden account with Website Guard, and Datoden knows which updates your licences include.

Can I go back to the free version?

Yes. Deactivate Pro – the free version keeps running with the same settings. Functions that only exist in Pro stop, but nothing is deleted.

Do I keep the free version?

Yes. Pro is an add-on: the free version stays installed and active as the base and is updated from WordPress.org as usual, and Pro adds the Pro features on top. On WordPress.org the free versions are called Datoden …, for example Datoden Cookie Consent.

Is VAT included?

Prices exclude VAT. VAT is calculated at checkout from your country. Companies in other EU countries can enter their VAT number.
