Cookie banner with categories
The banner has the buttons Accept all, Reject all and Settings. Under Settings visitors choose Statistics and – if you turn it on under Categories and Google – Marketing. Necessary cookies are always on.
A cookie banner that follows the rules
Cookie Consent shows a cookie banner that follows the GDPR and ePrivacy rules, with Google Consent Mode v2 and the WP Consent API. Pro finds the cookies for you, holds scripts back until the visitor says yes and keeps proof of consent.
In WordPress the plugin is called Datoden Cookie Consent – in the DT-addons menu it is listed as DT-cookie.
DT-cookie shows a cookie banner where Accept all and Reject all are the same size, nothing is pre-ticked, and Settings lets visitors choose per category. The choice is stored in the dt_consent cookie, and Google tags and plugins that support the WP Consent API follow it automatically. Everything runs from the plugin – nothing is loaded from other servers.
The banner has the buttons Accept all, Reject all and Settings. Under Settings visitors choose Statistics and – if you turn it on under Categories and Google – Marketing. Necessary cookies are always on.
With Google Consent Mode v2 on, Google tags start as denied and then follow the visitor's choice. Plugins that use the WP Consent API, such as Site Kit and WP Statistics, follow the choice automatically.
Choose a logo (the website's, your own image for light and dark mode, or none), an accent colour and a position at the bottom left or right. The preview in the sidebar shows the banner in both light and dark mode as you make changes.
Under Content you change the heading, text, buttons and categories. The banner comes in English, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish, and you can add more languages. Reset text brings back the standard wording.
Visitors can change their choice with the [datoden_cookie_settings] shortcode or a menu item with the CSS class dt-consent-open. If you start using new cookies, click Ask everyone again now and every visitor is asked on their next visit.
Scan now reads the front page, a few subpages and your active plugins and finds services such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar and YouTube. The plugin then sets itself up: the Marketing category, Google Consent Mode and automatic blocking. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Known statistics and marketing scripts wait until the visitor has said yes. The [datoden_cookie_list] shortcode shows the services from the latest scan, and Add to the privacy policy puts the list on your privacy page once you click it.
Under Rules for your visitors you choose, for example, Sweden, Other EU/EEA countries, France (6 months), Italy, United States (opt-out) or Worldwide – by the visitor. Proof of consent stores every choice on your own website for 13 months, without the IP address, searchable by consent ID and downloadable as CSV.
Everything without a Pro label works for free. What is marked Pro is included in the Pro version.
After installing – how to set up Cookie Consent.
Go to DT-addons → DT-cookie in the WordPress menu and make sure Cookie banner on the website is switched on.
Set the Logo and Accent colour and position and watch the result in the Preview in the sidebar.
Choose the Privacy policy page under Content, and turn on Marketing under Categories and Google if the website uses ads or marketing cookies.
Put the [datoden_cookie_settings] shortcode in the footer, or give a menu item the CSS class dt-consent-open, so visitors can change their choice as easily as they gave it.
