Language Switcher makes the website multilingual with linked pages, a language switcher and hreflang for search engines. Pro adds more languages, a domain per language, translation of menus, the theme and the slideshows – and every text can be edited directly on the website.
In WordPress the plugin is called Datoden Language Switcher – in the DT-addons menu it is listed as DT-language.
Each language on its own domain, own menus and texts – and edit the texts right on the website.
How Language Switcher works
DT-language makes your website multilingual. The main language stays on the website's usual address, and every other language gets its own address such as /en/ – or, with Pro, its own domain. Each page is linked to its translations, and visitors switch language with a switcher in the menu.
Languages and addresses
On the Languages tab you give each language a name, a code and a WordPress language. The main language uses the usual address and the second language an address on the same domain, such as /en/. Removing a language keeps its pages.
Linked pages and posts
The page and post lists get a Language column. Click + EN next to a page and a copy opens, ready to be translated. Existing translations show a pencil, and the Translations together button lists a page and its translations one after the other.
Language switcher
The language switcher is placed last in the menu. You choose where it goes and how it looks: a globe and language code with a drop-down, or all language codes side by side (SV / EN). It is also available as the [datoden_language_switcher] shortcode.
Pages that follow the language
The front page, its sections, the contact page and the privacy page show their translations automatically. A page opened on the wrong language address is redirected to the right one.
Built for search engines
The plugin adds hreflang links between language versions, sets the right language in <html lang> and shows WordPress' own texts in the visitor's language. It creates no extra tables and loads nothing from other servers.
More languages and a domain per language Pro
With Pro you add more than two languages with Add language and choose Address on this domain or Own domain for each one – for example example.com for English. Switch from /en/ to a domain and the old addresses move there automatically (301).
Menus, theme and slideshows Pro
On the Menus tab you pick a separate menu per language and menu location. In Appearance → Customize you choose the language at the top and translate the theme's texts, the site title, the tagline and the menu labels. In DT-slideshow you choose the language at the top of the slideshow.
Edit texts directly on the website Pro
Turn on Edit texts in the admin bar, click any text and type – Enter saves, Esc cancels. The change applies to the language you are viewing, wherever the same text appears, and the Texts on the page tab lists every change and lets you reset it.
What it looks like
Everything without a Pro label works for free. What is marked Pro is included in the Pro version.
Each language gets its address – with Pro more than two languages and a domain of its own, with old addresses moved by 301.Every page linked to its translations – click + and a copy opens, and the translations are listed together.Own menus and theme texts per language – with Pro the site title, tagline and menu labels are translated too.The language switcher last in the menu – as a globe where the languages drop down, or with all language codes side by side.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to the pages if I remove a language?
The pages in that language are kept. Only the language is removed from the settings.
Can I start with /en/ and move to a separate domain later?
Yes, with Pro. When you switch to Own domain, the old /en/ addresses move to the domain automatically with a 301 redirect.
What do I need for a separate domain per language?
The domain must show this website – as a domain pointer or alias, not a redirect – and have https. Until then, use the address on this domain.
Do I need a separate menu for every language?
No. Without one, the main language's menu is used and its pages lead to their translations. Choose a separate menu under Menus (Pro) if a language needs different links.
How do I show the language switcher somewhere other than the menu?
Use the [datoden_language_switcher] shortcode in a text, block or widget.
What happens when a licence runs out?
Nothing stops working. A purchase never runs out, and when a subscription ends the plugins keep every function – only the updates from Datoden stop.
What is a major version?
The first number in the version. A purchase includes every update in that major version, for example all 1.x versions. A new major version (2.0) comes about once a year with clearly new features and comes at a discount as an upgrade. A subscription always includes it.
How are websites counted?
Websites connected to your Datoden account with a Pro plugin switched on, in the order they were connected. Disconnect a website in My websites to move the licence to another.
Do I need a licence key?
No. The website is connected to your Datoden account with Website Guard, and Datoden knows which updates your licences include.
Can I go back to the free version?
Yes. Deactivate Pro – the free version keeps running with the same settings. Functions that only exist in Pro stop, but nothing is deleted.
Do I keep the free version?
Yes. Pro is an add-on: the free version stays installed and active as the base and is updated from WordPress.org as usual, and Pro adds the Pro features on top. On WordPress.org the free versions are called Datoden …, for example Datoden Language Switcher.
Is VAT included?
Prices exclude VAT. VAT is calculated at checkout from your country. Companies in other EU countries can enter their VAT number.
