The guard for your website

Website Guard

Website Guard keeps an eye on the website being up and emails you if it goes down, and installs plugins and themes by drag and drop. Pro adds safe updates and all of My websites at Datoden – for more websites.

In WordPress the plugin is called Datoden Website Guard – in the DT-addons menu it is listed as DT-website-guard.

How Website Guard works

DT-website-guard connects your website to a free Datoden account. Datoden then checks the website every five minutes and emails you if it stops responding, and the website shows up under My websites on datoden.com. Inside WordPress the plugin also gathers all of Datoden's plugins on one overview and lets you install plugins and themes by dragging and dropping the ZIP file.

Checked every five minutes

With DT-website-guard on, Datoden visits the public website every five minutes, around the clock. If it doesn't respond you get an email right away, and another one when it works again. The free version covers one website per Datoden account.

Status right in WordPress

At the top of the overview under DT-addons → DT-website-guard you see whether the website is up, its response time, and how long the padlock (SSL) and the domain are valid. Check again fetches the details anew.

Install by drag and drop

Drag a plugin or theme ZIP over any page, on the website or in the admin, and drop it in the area that appears. It is installed or updated right away, the cache is cleared and the page reloads. Combined DT packages are installed in batches, and the latest installations are listed on the overview.

Datoden's plugins on one overview

Datoden plugins lists every DT plugin. One that isn't installed is downloaded from datoden.se, verified and turned on with the Activate switch. If the website has a Pro licence, the Pro switch installs and turns on the Pro version directly.

Maintenance page

Under Maintenance page on the overview you set the heading and text visitors see in maintenance mode, per language. Ready-made texts exist for ten languages. Logged-in editors and the admin are not affected by maintenance mode.

My websites for more websites Pro

Pro lets you connect more websites to the same Datoden account and follow them in My websites. There you get uptime, a response time graph, a front page check, reminders before the SSL certificate or domain expires, and email alerts where you choose which events to be told about.

Update and control from Datoden Pro

From My websites you can update plugins, themes and WordPress, turn on maintenance mode, clear the cache, sign out all users, switch the cookie banner and dark mode on or off, send a test email and sign in to WordPress with a one-time link. The website picks up the command from Datoden, runs it and reports the result back.

Safe updates Pro

Before every installation or update of a plugin or theme, the version in use is saved. The website is checked afterwards, and if it broke the earlier version is put back at once. Under Safe updates on the overview you can also restore a saved version with one click.

What it looks like

Everything without a Pro label works for free. What is marked Pro is included in the Pro version.

Frequently asked questions

What is sent to Datoden?

Nothing until you click to connect. After that, the website address, language and installed DT plugins are sent, and Datoden visits the public website every five minutes like any visitor.

How do I disconnect the website?

Click Disconnect in the Datoden account card on the overview, or turn off the DT-website-guard switch. Nothing more is sent to Datoden after that.

Can every user drag and drop?

No. The drop area only appears for logged-in users who are allowed to install and update plugins, usually administrators.

Can I make a backup?

Yes, from My websites with Pro. The backup is not kept on the server: it is deleted right after the download and at the latest after two hours.

Which caches are cleared after installing?

WP Fastest Cache, WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache and LiteSpeed.

What happens when a licence runs out?

Nothing stops working. A purchase never runs out, and when a subscription ends the plugins keep every function – only the updates from Datoden stop.

What is a major version?

The first number in the version. A purchase includes every update in that major version, for example all 1.x versions. A new major version (2.0) comes about once a year with clearly new features and comes at a discount as an upgrade. A subscription always includes it.

How are websites counted?

Websites connected to your Datoden account with a Pro plugin switched on, in the order they were connected. Disconnect a website in My websites to move the licence to another.

Do I need a licence key?

No. The website is connected to your Datoden account with Website Guard, and Datoden knows which updates your licences include.

Can I go back to the free version?

Yes. Deactivate Pro – the free version keeps running with the same settings. Functions that only exist in Pro stop, but nothing is deleted.

Do I keep the free version?

Yes. Pro is an add-on: the free version stays installed and active as the base and is updated from WordPress.org as usual, and Pro adds the Pro features on top. On WordPress.org the free versions are called Datoden …, for example Datoden Website Guard.

Is VAT included?

Prices exclude VAT. VAT is calculated at checkout from your country. Companies in other EU countries can enter their VAT number.

Already bought?
